Delavan

In May 1836, the Phoenix brothers began to explore sites in northern Illinois and then southeastern Wisconsin. They found that the lush green hillsides, the ample water supply from Delavan Lake and the rich surrounding soil were perfect for their needs. Thus the town was born.

Delavan has many active participants in civic, political and community service groups. Service clubs include: Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions, American Legion, Chamber of Commerce, Masonic Bodies, Knights of Columbus, Elks, and Junior Women’s Club.

The spires that rise to the heavens above the 12 Protestant and one Catholic Church in Delavan bear witness to the community’s strong religious tradition. Nowhere is this more evident than in the committed faith leadership whose messages of togetherness and fellowship unite neighbors from all walks of life.

Delavan’s park system contains more than 100 acres of beautifully maintained natural preserves. There are a variety of scenic parks, including Mill Pond at Veteran’s Park, Phoenix Park, and Springs Park.
Here you will find spacious picnic areas and safe playgrounds for the kids. Tower Park, Veteran’s Park, and the Town of Delavan Community Park are popular recreation sites as well.

Located in southeastern Wisonsin's fertile Walworth County, Delavan is the economic and social center of this moderately populated area. It is within one hour's driving distance of the following Wisconsin cities: Beloit, Janesville, Milwaukee, Kenosha, and Madison. Rockford Illinois is just south of the border while Chicago is only 90 minutes away.

Delavan is situated at state highway 50 and I-43, which runs between Milwaukee and Beloit and allows access to the federal interstate system.

Air travelers can take advantage of the 4,400-ft. paved landing strip at Lake Lawn Airport, just inside the city limits on Highway 50. The airport can accommodate the largest corporate jets for quick commutes to and from important destinations.

Milwaukee's Mitchel Field International is 45 minutes from Delavan, Madison's Airport is an hour away, and Chicago's O'Hare International Airport -the world's busiest- is but 90 minutes from the city by car.

Shuttle service to O'Hare is provided daily -Monday through Saturday- from the Delavan House Hotel in downtown Delavan.
